6 Ways to a More Balanced Life

A balanced life is the only life for my too-ambitious-for-my-own good personality type. Can you relate? At times I run full throttle on an empty tank. We need to give ourselves a break instead of breaking ourselves. Here are six ways to live a more balanced life:

  1. Go extreme every once in a while – do a detox!
  2. Do something you love regularly – if you don’t have something find it!
  3. Stay hydrated
  4. Journal past your natural stopping point
  5. Accountability through community can be a life saver
  6. Paradigm Shift – health isn’t just physical

Go Extreme Every Once in a While: Detox

Gerolsteiner Sparkling Detox defined: Five days without coffee, juice, alcohol; drink only Gerolsteiner Mineral Water.

de·tox /ˈdētäks/ (noun) a process or period of time in which one abstains from or rids the body of toxic or unhealthy substances; detoxification.

Lexico by Oxford

Why I chose Gerolsteiner’s Sparkling Mineral Water:

High Mineral Content Water
  1. Taste (so freaking good)
  2. Natural minerals from areas of volcanic activity – Did you know mineral water not all water is equal? For instance, in order for mineral water to be deemed “High mineral content,” the water must demonstrate consistency in producing 500 mg/l or more of minerals. On the other hand, purified water can be made from a mixture of sources such as tap, salt or mineral water and does not require any kind of official seal of approval.
  3. Trustworthy brand
  4. Easily available

The Gerolsteiner_USA Sparkling Detox was a fun challenge to rejuvenate and refresh the crazy and monotonous parts of my day-to-day life. It didn’t require too much planning or thinking, which is effective for small steps toward more healthy living. Most surprisingly, I ditched coffee for all five days and found myself more energized!

Do Something You Love Regularly

If you don’t have something find it! My highest recommendation for someone who needs to find something they love is the Artist’s Way. This book was the launching pad for this blog, Make Home Warm. When I came across this resource, I was a life coach for an aspiring author. My work as a life coach was extremely inspiring and life giving for me. As I walked through her goals and timelines for writing this book, I researched tools and resources for her. Almost two years later, I referred this book to someone else. Ultimately, this reminder led me to buy the book myself.

Stay Hydrated

While at times you have to go extreme to flush out the toxins, hydration keeps a consistent flow through your body on the daily! Naturally, a hydrated body avoids inflammation, fights more illnesses, absorbs vitamins/minerals/nutrients better and has a better chance at healthy weight management. Personally, higher levels of hydration impact my sleep, digestion, and energy levels.

Balanced Life: Stay Hydrated & Journal

Some people might not find water consumption related to mood, but don’t be fooled! Sometimes if I tell my husband that my day is rough or I complain a lot, he will ask me if I’m hydrated! Water is huge part of living a balanced life.

PRO TIP: be mindful of the water you’re drinking. A simple decision to drink Gerolsteiner Mineral Water adds a balanced amount of calcium and magnesium to your diet.

Journal for a Balanced Life

Nothing is harder or more rewarding for me personally than writing. Every year, I go through two to three journals. The Artist’s Way will lead you to something called “Morning Pages.” In short, it’s a daily time to write three pages of “stream of consciousness.” Sometimes I start by repeatedly writing “I will not stop writing…” Other days, I start with my emotions or the list of things I have to get done. By page 2 or so, I am onto something good. It’s unrelentingly effective. Give it a try.

Accountability Through Community

This year, I found something really powerful in friendship – accountability. Early in the year, I shared on Instagram about my journey through fitness and the program I’d been using, called SWEAT. Immediately after I shared, I lost all motivation to keep up my fitness routines. Although I was sad and embarrassed, one friend messaged me about the program and said, “wow, I want to do it!” From there, I reached out to another fitness lover and we started setting weekly goals with required consequences for not fulfilling the goal. It was brilliant! I love these girls and found the relationship aspect of accountability was just as important as the responsibility for my commitment and follow-through. This was by far the most effective come back from zero to hero fitness levels.

Paradigm Shift: Health Isn’t Just Physical

Lastly, maybe balance just needs a little perspective shift. If in some case you need to sacrifice one thing for another, put it into perspective. For instance, there are times when I need to get to work early or stay at work late and miss out on a work out. Rather than get upset about missing your workout, re-posture the sacrifice as an investment in your financial and professional health.

Whatever you do, do it in the name of health. Incremental steps are powerful.
