Best Home Decor Trends

The post for my home decor fanatics! <fist pump!> Time to consolidate the best current home decor trends. If you incorporate just a few decor items off of my home decor trend list, you’ll have a beautifully trendy interior that will welcome your guests tremendously!

Finally, we bought my first single family home as an adult. Still I remember the feeling that I journaled about. In the months leading up to the final paperwork, a passion for home decor encircled me like the thrill of a surfer riding a tunnel wave. From Pinterest to blog-hopping to polling on my Instagram account, my creative side began to explore the wide world of home decor trends of 2019. As a result, I want to share my personal favorite home decor trends of 2019 that I adopted in my new home.

The transition from a townhome to a single family home feels like moving from the minor league to the majors.

August 21st, 2019 Journal Entry

Don’t forget to take care of yourself in huge transitions, if you happen to be moving and decorating like I was. Self-care will keep you sane and inspired!

My fave home decor trends below:

  1. Circular/wall mirrors
  2. Entryway benches
  3. Grey paint
  4. Succulents
  5. White and gold accents
  6. Gallery walls
  7. Fabric headboards
  8. Double layered porch mat

Circular mirrors or wall mirrors

Some of my beautiful friends on Instagram, home decor stores (like West Elm, Restoration Hardware, and Crate & Barrel) and the beautiful Pinterest inspiration led me to this style that I absolutely adore. It’s my top trend this year. I LOVE my huge, gold-framed circular mirror.

Entryway benches

I’m obsessed with the entry benches. I went with an all natural finish bench. Also noted in my images from above – so many different ways to interpret this!

My only regret with this one is that I could’ve got a longer bench, but I was still able to style it a few different ways.

Grey paint

Paint is a difficult decision. Moreover, I had only seen the house two times before I needed to make a decision. Also, there were only 2 days of an empty house before we had to move in. We could’ve painted while we lived there, but with a two year old running amuck, I opted out. So here are the things I considered when making my decision:

  1. Everything it will touch:
    1. Existing furniture
    2. Paintings
    3. Rugs
    4. Flooring
    5. Kitchen cabinets/counters
  2. Overall vibes – warm or cold
  3. Interior designer preferences:
    1. Friends who had hired interior designers
    2. A friend whose sister is an interior designer
  4. Take a poll on social media! Let people vote, but they don’t determine your decision. Don’t feel bad if you ultimately decide different than the majority.
  5. Come up with an overall color palette

After all this, I had narrowed down to a few colors:

  • Mineral
  • Wheat Bread
  • Castle Path
  • Burnished Clay

These were some of the ones I was looking at though

Ultimately, it clicked to me that I needed to pay very close attention to the undertones, because of the pinky-beige tiles that I wanted to mute as much as possible. It wasn’t conclusive based on my research, but this quote from My Soulful Home was very helpful:

If your furnishing are cool in tone stay away from a grey with taupe/brownish undertones. If your furnishing are warm in tone stay away from a gray with cool blue/violet undertones.

So we went with Burnished Clay, which claimed to have more of a burnt red, brown undertone and honestly I’m SO happy with the outcome. People comment on the color of our paint all the time. Looks great with the gold accents.

Succulents

Who doesn’t love a green pop or two, by a plant that’s so hard to kill! Believe it or not, I’ve killed a few succulents, but those actually have long stories involving hurricane evacuations and other extenuating circumstances. Check out Pinterest for a bunch of beautiful, creative ways to display these gorgeous plants at your home!

Gold Accents

What is so beloved about the classic gold look? Personally, I think it’s that classy and timeless vibrance. Here’s some snippets from my new house, my design software, and one image from my old master room – since we are still finishing the new master suite (can’t wait to unveil that!) It’s amazing how the lighter wood tones (my old master suite vs my new home) make a huge difference on the white/gold coloring.

Gallery walls

Gallery walls are definitely a personal preference too – not for everyone and that’s okay! You can have really busy gallery walls with tons of different layers, textures and sizes or a very simple clean one. The busy ones are definitely harder to design, but add so much character! I shared a few of my designs in the last section. Below is the inspiration for Autumn’s nursery wall and the end result:

Fabric headboards

This trend is cute but I didn’t think I would fall into it. Yet, below is my beloved resting in our new fabric frame and bed-in-a-box (another trend not noted in this post) Still working on the rest of the bedroom decor (our old nightstands are too dark) but we also have the gallery wall above the bed – not pictured here. Coming soon!

Double layered porch mat

My husband saw my Amazon order come through and he was so confused about the two rugs. When I laid it out, he loved it. This one might be a seasonal trend though – we will see.

I think that 2019 has been a great year so far. The home decor trends and fashion trends are on point. I think that I have followed each and every trend listed here, except for the double layered porch mat, but I’ll fix that soon lol Thanks for sharing!

I’m all about grey paint. When my husband and I buy our next home, I want to paint the entire place in varying shades of blue-toned grey. I can’t wait!! Also, the circular mirrors are so pretty! I’ve seen them a lot in bathrooms recently too and I think they add a fun contrast to a lot of rectangular and square shapes.

I love this colour grey walls and it’s so difficult to get the right grey colour. I painted my bathroom Grey a few years ago but it looks more blue:( I will have to try one of those colour options you picked! I am so into light colours like white or off white!
